When a Scot Ties the Knot (Castles Ever After, #3) and Epilogue by Tessa Dare

When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare
SUMMARY

On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shyly pretty and talented with a drawing pencil, but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: she invented a sweetheart.

A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her, but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter … and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.

Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep—handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He’s wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters… and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.

MY REVIEW

Miss Madeline Gracechurch does not like socializing. She prefers staying alone in her room and drawing. Preferably snails, bugs and insects. When the time arrives for her first London season, Madeleine will invent a sweetheart who is conveniently far away at the war and who sends her love letters.
This non-existent relationship will continue for many years until Madeline inherits a castle and she decides that it is time to kill off Captain Logan MacKenzie. Not that he would mind, since he does not exist.

Madeleine will be surprised when one day a man will appear at the castle holding her letters and he is ready to marry her.
Yes, Captain MacKenzie definitely is a real man and he is not happy that this English lass decided to kill him off.

If her Captain MacKenzie didn’t exist, who was this man? And what did he want from her?
“You aren’t real.” She briefly closed her eyes and pinched herself, hoping to waken from this horrid dream. “You. Aren’t. Real.”

Luckily for her Captain MacKenzie is a good man with a great heart and good intentions. And also a bookworm.
Madeleine will simply cannot avoid falling in love with him.

He looked up from the book and caught her staring. “Is there something the matter?”
“Yes, there’s something the matter. Logan, this is bad.”
“What’s bad?”
“Here I am, struggling to banish any foolish imagined affections for you so that we can consummate this marriage of convenience in a proper businesslike fashion, as we agreed. And then you go and read a book?”
While he was at it, why didn’t he just bring her a basket of kittens, a bottle of champagne, and pose naked with a rose caught between his teeth?

Now she only needs to convince him that
-it was a mistake that she denied him
-he will never be alone again
-he is worthy
-they need to create memories together

“Remember the first night we made love?” she whispered, sliding her arms around his waist. “It was Beltane. Everyone was gathered around the bonfire, and we slipped away in secret.”
“Aye.” The word slipped out as a moan. He could feel himself giving in to the sweet warmth of her. “I remember.”

Oh I loved this book so much! I was reading it when I took the children for basketball practice and I think everyone could hear my giggling despite the deafening continuing ball bouncing.

When a Scot Ties the Knot Bonus Epilogue

A much wanted epilogue which is woven around Rabbie's wedding day. We learn what happened to Maddie, Logan, Aunt Thea, and all of Logan’s men. It is broken down into three parts.

My favourite one is third part and my favourite person is Grant.

"...you think I don’t recall the all other times we’ve kissed."
Her arms slipped from his neck. "Did… Did you say—"
"Aye, lass. I recall every one. Well, nine of them at least. I might have missed a few before I started keeping notes."
"Oh, Lord. You kept notes?" Her face was growing redder by the moment.
"I always write myself a note if something’s important to me. And your kisses are verra, verra important to me."

That scene reminded me a bit the movie "Memento" by Christopher Nolan LOL
