29980848Having the Barbarian's Baby (Ruby Dixon)

SUMMARY

Megan’s ready to give birth, but she’s not ready to let her mate leave her side. When Cashol must go hunting to feed the tribe, they’re separated for the first time since resonance. Not a problem, except the baby’s ready to be born and there’s a storm brewing…

MY REVIEW

Megan was pregnant when she was abducted from Earth and her kidnappers stopped her pregnancy. Now she is mated and pregnant again.
As a result, she keeps whining in the whole story and she is totally attached to her mate Cashol.
Cashol is a funny guy and totally into his pregnant wife. He does not want to leave her side, but the people at the cave will be hungry if he does not go hunting.
Before he leaves, he prepares a treasure hunt for his Megan so that she will be occupied until he returns.

This short story is a chance for us to meet a mated couple that does not have a full length novel.
Cute story!

Barbarian’s Mate (Ice Planet Barbarians, #6) by Ruby Dixon

29623967 Barbarian’s Mate (Ruby Dixon)

SUMMARY

'Resonance' is supposed to be a dream - that's when your soulmate is chosen for you. And everyone on the ice planet has hooked up with a big, hunky soulmate of their own...except me. So do I want a mate? Heck yeah. More than anything, all I've ever wanted is to be loved by someone.

Except that the soulmate chosen for me? My least favorite person on the darn ice planet. Haeden's the most cranky, disapproving, unpleasant, overbearing male alien...so why is it that my body sings when he gets close? Why is he working so hard to prove to me that he's not as awful as I think he is?

I hate him...don't I?

MY REVIEW

The grumpy alien and his reluctant mate

Haeden is grumpiness personified, but I suppose all the readers despise Josie.
That’s because Haeden has a very good reason for being grumpy: He was rejected by his first mate and then she died and he was left alone and virgin all his life.
On the other hand, Josie has no particular reason for being reluctant: She wants family and children, but she does not want to give a chance to Haeden.

I think this is the only story –besides maybe the story of Liz and Raahosh as the second one- that the two main characters suffer so much and for so long from khui fever. Seriously, they almost die waiting and not acting on their need.

Haeden and Josie will need a lot of time to come to an understanding, to start liking each other, to fall in love and to realize that they are perfect for each other.

Josie needs so badly love and affection and Haeden needs so much to provide support and care. His nurturing instincts are well hidden behind his bad-temperedness.

The world building is still excellent. A strange green island in the middle of the ocean; the vicious tall, monkey-like creatures; the huge birds that can attack and swallow grown up humans in one gulp.

Overall, an excellent addition to the series!

Barbarian's Prize (Ice Planet Barbarians, #5) by Ruby Dixon

28096224Barbarian's Prize (Ruby Dixon)

SUMMARY

It’s hard being the most popular girl on the ice planet. The alien men are falling all over themselves to impress me in the hopes that I’ll take them to my furs. But they don’t know my secrets – none of them do. And they don’t realize that behind my smile, I just wish they’d go away.

I don’t want any of them. I want someone else – someone with a gorgeous blue body, big horns, and the most intense gaze ever. He’s the only one that knows the truth. Maybe with him, I can work through my fears of the past….but I’m pretty sure he wants more than just friendship.

He wants forever, and I’m not sure I can give it.

MY REVIEW

Tiffany may look that she is a girl who likes torturing our super-sweet, super-needy blue barbarians who keep bringing her food and gifts, but deep down she is a damaged girl who just wants to be left alone. After being brutally raped by the aliens who stole her, she is just scared of all the males.

Her best friend, Josie, decides to help her. So Josie sets up a few made-up courting games for the males who are interesting in Tiffany. Whoever wins, he can accompany Tiffany to the Elder’s Cave. Thus, males leave Tiffany alone and they concentrate on the games for many days.
I did not really like this part of the book and I almost did not like the story because of the stupid games!

Salukh knew that Tiffany is his mate since they have first met, but he does not want to scare her. So he is trying to just be her friend for the time being until his stupid khui decides to cooperate and it resonates to her. As a result he does not participate to the courting games.

Actually, the weird conversations Salukh has with his khui from time from time were bringing tears in my eyes from laughter:

There is our mate, I tell it. See how lovely she is? How fragile? I need to resonate for her. I need to claim her, to protect her.
Tee-fah-nee is mine.
Resonate.
Resonate.
Resonate so I may claim her.
But my khui is silent, the traitor, as I walk up to her.

Salukh and Tiffany have a long way to go to find happiness together. I loved the fact that the resonating took so much time to start. I loved the way Salukh looks after Tiffany and how he persuades her that she belongs with him – even before the khui starts singing.
Salukh .... I think I have just discovered my new favorite alien…

Ice Planet Holiday (Ice Planet Barbarians #4.5) by Ruby Dixon

28002882Ice Planet Holiday (Ruby Dixon)

SUMMARY

All this snow and no holidays? What's a stranded human to do?

Create a new holiday, of course. Georgie and the other women decide to bring some new traditions and cheer to the sa-khui. More babies are born, presents are exchanged, and a new romance blossoms between a human woman desperate for a change, and the alien determined to protect her.

MY REVIEW

The sa-khui version of:

Christmas
Christmas tree
mistletoe
candies
stuffed turkey
football
holiday spirit.

Happy resonating Claire and Ereven!
Happy birthday Talie, Anna and Elsa!

I wish we had Ereven's POV, more Claire and Ereven and less Georgie but still it was a nice short novel.

Barbarian Mine (Ice Planet Barbarians, #4) by Ruby Dixon

26570784Barbarian Mine (Ruby Dixon)

SUMMARY

The ice planet has given me a second lease on life, so I'm thrilled to be here. Sure, there's no cheeseburgers, but I'm healthy and ready to be a productive member of the small tribe.

What I didn't anticipate? That there'd be a savage stranger waiting nearby, watching me. And when he takes me captive, the unthinkable happens... I resonate to him.

Resonance means mating, and children... but I don't know if this guy's ever been around anyone before. He's truly a barbarian in all ways, right down to clubbing me over the head and claiming me as his own.

So why is it that I crave his touch and hunger for more?

MY REVIEW

Harlow disappeared, when she was needed the most. Where is Harlow?

Harlow has resonated, has been clubbed over the head and dragged away in the snow by someone. Does this remind you something? Who else has kidnapped his girl? Raahosh, anyone? Apparently the kidnapping approach runs in the family.

Rukh is a nice blue alien. He is a bit smelly and dirty; he does not know how to speak; he is naked continuously; he does not use fire and blankets and he does not understand resonating.
But he is a true virgin, well-equipped and he belongs totally to Harlow. Her own personal Tarzan.

Harlow has a second chance in this unfriendly, icy planet. She used to suffer from a terminal illness. She only had a few months to live. Her cootie has solved this. Now she is well and happy. She wants to celebrate life and to help everyone in the tribe. That is until Ruhn stole her and as a result he becomes her personal project.

Before they become lovers and mates, Harlow will be his mommy. Ruhn is a blank slate. She will teach him to talk, to light fires and to take a bath after years of accumulated dirt – actually he is a very dirty alien, literally. I was counting the days until he finally takes a bath. Finally she will teach him what resonating means and how babies (kits, for the alien speaking readers) are made.

“Rukh mate. This purr-purr-purr? This means ‘mate’. No purr-purr, no mate.”

Isolated and far away from the tribe, Harlow sees the ocean for first time and she decides to thank cootie and to become a mother. She is healthy and alive. She feels only gratitude and love for Ruhn.
Unfortunately, their personal paradise will be violated when the blue barbarian tribe will appear one day on their doorstep. Moreover, there is something wrong with Harlow’s pregnancy that she refuses to acknowledge.

It is time :
-For changing of scenery
-For the lost members of a family to come together
-For some ugly truths to come out
-For Ruhn and Harlow to set their priorities in life
-For some new babies to be around at last

This was the most emotional book so far in the series.
I absolutely loved Harlow, the survivor and Ruhn, the abandoned blue barbarian who grew up alone.
They will have each other and they will be family together. Amazing feelings for these two lost souls.

Barbarian Lover (Ice Planet Barbarians, #3) by Ruby Dixon

26185583Barbarian Lover (Ruby Dixon)

SUMMARY

As one of the few humans stranded on the ice planet, I should be happy that I have a new home. Human women are treasured here, and one alien in particular has made it clear that he wants me. It's hard to push away the sexy, flirtatious Aehako, when all I want to do is grab him by his horns and insist he take me to his furs.

But I've got a terrible secret - the aliens who abducted me are back, and thanks to the translator in my ear, they can find me. My presence here endangers everyone... but can I give up my new life and the man I want more than anything?

MY REVIEW

Living in fear of what might happen prevents us from enjoying what we have today.

Aehako is sexy, sweet, nice, very good with his hands, open-minded and definitely interested in Kira. This was obvious in Barbarian Alien. Now it is the time to stake his claim. It doesn’t matter that his khui does not sing for her. Aehako is determined to make Kira his mate.

“I do not need a khui to tell me who is the mate for me. You are mine and I will take every moment as a gift.”

Kira is miserable. She is 22 years old, still virgin, unable to have children ever and constantly rejected by her old boyfriends. Moreover she is stuck with a painful translator inside her ear which the little green men have put inside her to communicate. Kira has helped a lot the girls to survive, but now the equipment is redundant and it may attract the little green men back. She knows why her khui does not sing and although she craves attention, she avoids Aehako for his own good.

“I don’t want you to feel trapped with me.”

The book is not as funny as the first two books, but very emotional and sweet. There is this joke that started from the previous book about the courting gift that Liz suggested, so that Aehako can officially court Kira. But after a while it does matter because the gift becomes really very useful.

Aehako is mainly pushing Kira to open up, he does not get angry when she keeps things from him and he makes her feel good about herself. He will be the perfect boyfriend for the Sad Eyes human.
Kira is mainly pushing Aehako away. She is scared, with low self esteem and constantly sad and jealous of the rest of the girls. Aehako needs to try very hard, but a little jealousy created by his ex-girlfriend, Asha, will help Kira and Aehako come together.

“If you’re sure….”she says softly.
“I was sure the moment I saw your face.”
She pulls back, surprised. “You were?”
I nod. “I saw you and thought, if ever there was a female that needed a male to make her smile, it was you. And that we would be perfect together.”

Barbarian Alien (Ice Planet Barbarians, #2) by Ruby Dixon

25802043 Barbarian Alien (Ruby Dixon)

SUMMARY

Twelve humans are left stranded on a wintry alien planet. I’m one of them. Yay, me.

In order to survive, we have to take on a symbiont that wants to rewire our bodies to live in this brutal place. I like to call it a cootie. And my cootie’s a jerk, because it also thinks I’m the mate to the biggest, surliest alien of the group.

MY REVIEW

Oooh, Me likey a lot!

After finishing the second book of “Ice Planet Barbarians”, I believe it is safe to compare the books to a box of chocolates. You know you will love them (because chocolate, dah…) , but you are not sure what kind of flavor or texture you will get.

I think this time I got the crunchy, sprinkle with nuts chocolate outside but with a gooey and melting milk chocolate inside, maybe with a surprise hazelnut in the centre.

Raahosh (i.e. the angry one who growls according to Kira’s translator) is simply a huge sweetheart. Tough, muscled all over, with ridges, scarred, really scary.
But apparently he has the best heart, the best intentions and he is truly a virgin.

Raahosh never had a loving family. He never had something that belonged to him. So when his khui is vibrating and purring for Liz, he is so happy that he found his mate. Until Liz starts talking and it becomes obvious that she hates him and unfortunate Raahosh cannot understand his khui anymore.
“My khui is an idiot.”

Still Raahosh does not give up. He steals away Liz and he tries to convince her to accept him as a mate and to carry his child.

Liz is an independent, smart mouth, feisty girl who does not want to become a mommy
no matter how much her khui insists….

“The cootie in my chest thrums, and I smack it to silence it. Fucking cootie.”

…and
no matter how hard Raadosh is trying to convince her.

“I really hate this guy,” I say as I chew aloud. “Can’t make lemonade when the lemon’s such a huge dick.”

Of course being a virgin and all and knowing nothing about the strange human courtship, does not help our big blue friend.

Needless to say, I loved this book. I laughed my head off and I had a great time with this awkward couple. They definitely deserve each other.

(If you don’t know what khui is, please read the first book. It is an interesting surprise…)

SUMMARY

You'd think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you'd be wrong. Because now, the aliens are having ship trouble, and they've left their cargo of human women - including me - on an ice planet.

And the only native inhabitant I've met? He's big, horned, blue, and really, really has a thing for me...

MY REVIEW

That was fun!

I absolutely love the theme “Alien Males fall in love and mate Earth Brides”. Thus, I really do not understand why it took me so long to start the Ice Planet Barbarians series and join this space party. No excuse besides the fact that time flies and I have a “To Be Read” book list with the height of Kilimanjaro.

In the first book, Georgie has been abducted from her warm bed while she was sleeping and she wakes up at a cargo ships full of disgusting aliens merchants/ traffickers and more Earth girls ready to be sold somewhere and to somebody. The situation is quite vague. The girls have to survive the hunger, the cold, the rapes, the experiments and their only weapon finally is a sh!t bucket. Honestly!

When the spaceship malfunctions and crashes on a strange ice cold planet, the horrible aliens abandon temporally their merchandise, i.e. the poor clueless earth girls.

Help will come from the inhabitants of this planet.
They are tall, they are blue, they have horns, tails and strange penis and they purr and vibrate. They prefer their food raw and they are in a desperate need of females.

We have two points of view in the book by Georgie and by Vektal, the big blue alien and excellent hunter and licker.

I had great fun with this book and I was mostly laughing. The way Vektal thinks, talks and acts is hilarious. If you don’t know anything about the story, I am sure that you will puzzle over what the f@ck KHUI is.
“She has given me her body when she has no khui to compel her.”

Ice Planet Barbarians

One of my favourite Sci-Fi romance series, which is also quite smutty, is the Ice Planet Barbarians series by Ruby Dixon.
This series is on-going and so far around 20 books and short novels have been published.

Books 1 and 2 in this series were originally released as six-part serials:
1.1 - 1.6 Ice Planet Barbarians and 2.1 - 2.6 Barbarian Alien.

The rest of the books were published as  self-contained stories.

Each book contains the love story of a couple, usualy it is about an alien male and a girl from Earth. But you can find also books with two alien lovers as the main characters.

So during August, I would like to present the first books in the series.
