I absolutely loved this book. It begins really intense with a whole native family being slaughtered and someone videotaping the aftermath. The video is put on the Internet and Kade is sent to investigate as the Order is suspecting Rogues have been involved.

Kade is from Alaska close to the village the incident took place. It appears that there are specific issues which led him to leave his family to join the Order, family issues. There is a twin brother of him, Seth with a really dark nature. From this dark nature Kade was trying to escape, when he left. Above all Kade and Seth are predators. They love hunting, killing and bathing into blood. Seth also likes taking souvenirs from his killings.

Alex is the pilot of the village and she has a dog (half breed wolf actually), Luna. Alex is originated from sunny Florida and with her father they moved to frozen Alaska as far as possible from her birth city. We learn that her mother and brother were killed horribly in Florida by Rogues. Alex is more openminded towards breeds because of these killings.

The attraction between Kade and Alex is instant. I loved the chemistry between them and the fact that Alex is so understanding and openminded.

"Shades of midnight" sets up the next book "Taken by the midnight", so if it is possible I suggest you read one after the other. Next book is the story of Brock and Jenna. Jenna is the best friend of Alex and she had a close and personal contact with the Ancient in Alaska the night she decided to kill herself. It was actually the first time we see that the Ancient has emotions. He asks her if she wants to live and he spares her life. We will see how Ancient affects her life in the next book.

Really loved the book: the settings, the strong scenes, the storyline, the dialogues, the main couple. Great addition to the series!
