Paper Princess by Erin Watt
SUMMARY
From strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.
These Royals will ruin you…
Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.
Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.
Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.
He might be right.
Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.
MY REVIEW
I knew I was doomed since the moment I started reading this book. I knew it would be glued to my hands until I finished it. And yet I started it and I couldn’t let it go. I am actually feeling very proud of myself for being able to take short breaks such as going to the bathroom, cooking and feeding my family and rubbing my eyes.
The idea is truly original, the writing is captivating and the building tension is not avoided. A 17 years old girl Ella (ex striptease dancer) is basically thrown in a big house and in a big family consisting of a 40 years old father and 5 (yes five!) teenage men. The boys are making it obvious from the beginning that they do not want her there and there is no chance they will treat like a sister or make her feel welcome as their father wants.
Thinks will get ugly soon. This is an inescapable, undeniable fact!
Too much testosterone around, ex and new girlfriends and too many ghosts are still ruling the life of the living: Ella’s dead mother, her unknown until recently dead father who was also Royal’s best friend and Royal’s late wife.
Royal is a total mess trying to fill up the empty spaces without much success.
Ella is trying to survive and hide the fact she is an orphan and alone until Royal saves her and takes her away to be part of his family.
Royal's 5 children are also trying to cope with their mother’s death. When they first meet Ella they are quite intimidating, but she will discover that deep down are nice kids although their teenage hormones are keep things interesting constantly. Ella of course will fall in love with one of them.
There is a cliffhanger at the end, but really if you pay attention when you read the story you kind of expect something like this to happen.
