Twisted Palace (The Royals, #3)

Twisted Palace by Erin Watt

SUMMARY

These Royals will ruin you…

From mortal enemies to unexpected allies, two teenagers try to protect everything that matters most.

Ella Harper has met every challenge that life has thrown her way. She’s tough, resilient, and willing to do whatever it takes to defend the people she loves, but the challenge of a long-lost father and a boyfriend whose life is on the line might be too much for even Ella to overcome.

Reed Royal has a quick temper and even faster fists. But his tendency to meet every obstacle with violence has finally caught up with him. If he wants to save himself and the girl he loves, he’ll need to rise above his tortured past and tarnished reputation.

No one believes Ella can survive the Royals. Everyone is sure Reed will destroy them all.
They may be right.

With everything and everyone conspiring to keep them apart, Ella and Reed must find a way to beat the law, save their families, and unravel all the secrets in their Twisted Palace.

MY REVIEW

Royals have not ruined Ella.

Royals offered her warmth, togetherness, love and the family she has been missing all her life. She has finally managed to have a personal life with a boy that she loves, a best friend who stands by her, fellow students that give advice and make her laugh.

Twisted Palace is not a bad book, but I had specific issues with it:

1. I did not love all of it. Although it had parts I really enjoyed, it also had parts that I found extremely boring. The murder case dominates the book and the relationship between Ella and Reed is secondary importance. Maybe that is the reason it took me a week to finish it, while I finished the other two books in one sitting.

2. The book is certainly less intense in comparison to the previous books. Even the big revelations in the end of the book are less dramatic than the cliffhangers in the previous books. I am sure many readers were expecting these revelations and were not surprised.
I don’t want to say that the book was predictable. I just want to say that it is lacking the wow factor.

3. I missed Ella’s sass. In this book, she is away from the spotlight. Even her problems now seem insignificant. She used to fight for survival and acceptance. Now she behaves just like a teenager with daddy issues who is not allowed to see her badboy boyfriend. These are issues that can result to a drama, but of smaller scale.

4. A lot of people with established personalities were reintroduced: Wane is not such a manwhore any more. Dinah may have some depth and feelings. Jordan shares a few buddy moments with Ella etc.
On the other hand many characters almost disappear from the story. Easton is just a background actor in the family drama. The same the twins – but they were in the background also in the previous books. Easton absence is more noticeable.

5. The book did not feel like the end of the story and I really would like it to have some short of finality. I guess that it is because it is not the end of the story and more books are coming. But the story felt incomplete.

The story had a lot of drama around and I love drama. But maybe it did not have the drama I was looking for.

Anyway, I will certainly read the next books in the series when they are published.

I belong to the Royal’s family as well now!
